Four Types of Anime Waifus – Which one’s The Best For You?
Four Types of Anime Waifus – Which one’s The Best For You?
Picture this.
You just finished watching a new anime. Whether its because of the super psycho personality, or the cute loveable shy girl, you found your new favorite waifu. She’s perfect in every way (other than being 2D).
Or maybe that’s a bonus. No judgement here.
Only there’s one problem….
You started a new show and NOW you found a DIFFERENT pink haired chick who’s even MORE crazy and MORE awesome than the one before! (I like pink hair if you cant tell)
So how do you make the decision on who’s the right waifu for you? It all comes down to knowing the 4 anime girl types. This list is going to help you decide which girl fits best for your personality. Along with great examples of each.
Type 1: Tsundere
Tsundere is the most popular Anime girl archetype. “Tsun” comes from a Japanese word that literally translates to “be aloof” or “High and mighty”.
You know the “It’s not like I like you or anything!!” type? That’s a tsundere my friend.
Just like the girl who throws rocks at the boys on the playground, this type of girl pretends she has no feelings for the boy. She even often comes across as mean or crabby. But in private, is often sweet and good hearted.
Which, if you’re like me... is kinda great right?
So let’s grab some famous examples of tsundere’s:
- Rin Tohsaka – Fate/Stay night
- Taiga (Aisaka) – Toradora!
- Mai Sakurajima – Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
- Shana-Shakugan no Shana
- Asuka Langley – Neon Genesis Evangelion
Type 2: Kuudere
Alright now that we’ve got the stand-off-ish but loveable characters out of the way, its time to move on.
Firstly what does the “Ku” in kurdere mean?
“Ku” actually comes from the English word “cool”. I bet you can already guess where this is going….
Kudere’s are the calm, collected and “cool” girls that seem to have no other care in the world. They never panic, and usually get portrayed as “emotionless”. Think Mikasa Ackerman.
Examples of Kudere’s:
- Mikasa Ackerman – Attack on Titan
- Saber – Fate/Stay
- Kanade Tachibana – Angel Beats!
- Hitagi Senjougahara – Bakemonogatari
- Hancock Boa – One Piece
Type 3: Dandere
Don’t see one you like yet? Don’t worry we got 2 great types of girls left. One of them is sure to float your boat.
Next up is the typical “cute” girl. You know, the one in the corner who’s soft spoken, shy and sweet? Quite literally “Dan” or “Danmari” meaning silence, describes this type perfectly.
Although shy and sweet, unfortunately for them Dandere’s tend to be TOO shy to even be social, let alone blab their feelings out. They’re pretty much always awkward and stay quiet, keeping their feelings and thoughts to themselves.
Most Famous Dandere’s
- Hinata Hyuga – Naruto
- Nagisa Furukawa – Clannad
- Mikuru Asahina – Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
- Tsukasa Hiiragi – Lucky Star
- Shiro – No Game No Life
Type 4: Yandere
You’ve finally arrived. This is the part of the list that tends to be everyone’s FAVORITE type of anime girl. The crazy kind.
They may not make for the most relaxing wife, but they definitely keep you on your toes. The “Yan” comes from the word “yanderu” which beans to be sick – sick in the head that is.
Usually these girls “appear” to be pretty average. Happy and social all the time, and plenty of friends to go around.
Until you threaten the one they love.
Threatening their lover is like poking a hungry bear with a sharp stick. The teeth come out and they rip you limb from limb… if you can’t outrun your friend.
And it’s not just threatening…
Don’t even LOOK at the person they like, or you’re bound to see the green eyed jealousy monster come out. And we’re not talking a slap on the wrist. More than likely you’re gonna end up dead.
Here are some of your favorite Yandere’s
- Yuno – Future Diary
- Lucy – Elfen Lied
- Himiko Toga – My Hero Academia
- Misa Amane – Death Note
- Kurumi Tokisaki – Date A Live
- Kaede Fuyou – Shuffle
So now that we got the list out of the way, how will you EVER decide which is the right type for you? It’s gonna be pretty damn hard since they’re all great for different occasions. But let’s face it... there’s certain ones you may not want to bring home to your parents for thanksgiving dinner.
I like to think of it this way…
I’m a big fan of the “opposites attract” gig. Let’s give an example..
Do you think a crazy a** looney bin who’s ready to murder everyone at the drop of a pin would make a healthy couple with someone equally as bananas? No, probably not.
How about 2 shy people in a room who are too afraid to talk to eachother. Like a group of 6th graders at their first school dance. There’s a whole lotta sittin around staring at the walls.
I think the best way to figure this one out, is to figure out which one of these types YOU are, and find something that’ll mesh well.
Perhaps a crazy psychopath would do well with a “cool and collected type”, like a Sasuke.
Or an incredibly shy Dandere would match up great with a more outgoing personality, like Naruto & Hinata.
Life’s all about finding the right balance.
But also…
I wouldn’t blame you for choosing Yandere, every. Single. Time.
