Top 10 Best Romance Anime’s of All Time

 

     Finished watching your last anime and stuck on what to put on next?  With a list of so many choose from its near IMPOSSIBLE to find something that fits exactly what you’re looking for.   My advice? Watch them all!  But since nobody has that kind of time, here is out top 10 Romance Anime List of all time.

 

 

10:  So, I Can’t Play H

     This is one of the lesser-known anime’s, but definitely a personal favorite.  It’s a pretty short one so you can watch it in one go as well.   The main character is Ryosuke Kaga, a pretty normal teenage kid.   A gorgeous, hot redhead shows up at his door one night, and being the “super kind guy who totally isn’t attracted to her “(I’m lying), invites her inside.

     Well as he’s trying to make a move, which all anime boys are SUPER good at and not awkward at all, she finds out she’s actually a Shinigami.  To make it worse, she’s THE Shinigami of Death.

     This anime is loaded up with plenty of “fan service” and action scenes so if you’re not into that, give it a pass.  But if you do like that stuff, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

 

9: Rent-A-Girlfriend

     Okay I gotta admit, I wasn’t sold on this one at first. BUT I WAS SO WRONG.  The anime starts off with the main character, Kazuya Kinoshita getting dumped by his “gorgeous” girlfriend.  And let me tell you, she SUCKS.

     Pretty much the next day he sees her with another guy, and when he goes home all upset about it, he goes on the “Rent-A-Girlfriend” app.  Think of Instagram but you can actually “rent” the girl who’s photos you check out 10 times a day.

     The rented “girlfriend” then hangs out with you, goes on dates and even ACTS like a really good girlfriend.  So much so it even fools the main character into thinking she likes him.

     Without going into too much detail the two of these main characters become really good friends, aside from the “payment” situation.  And they are certainly falling for each other.

 

8 :Darling in the franxx

You’ve probably already watched this one, right? RIGHT?!?!

     If you haven’t, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. This anime’s got action, robots, war, and a smokin hot pink haired devil girl who is an ABSOLUTE SAVAGE pilot of the mechs.  This one is one of my favorite anime of all time, and I’m definitely getting a tattoo of Zero Two (the hot pink haired devil girl) in the near future.

     The show does a great job of mixing in the mech battles, along with the loving romance between Zero Two and Hiro (the main character). 

     The premise of the anime takes place in a Post-Apocalyptic world where the pilots use mechs to fight off the monsters attacking one of the last “bases” of mankind.  I don’t want to ruin anything, but this one is filled to the BRIM with turns and twists that are going to have to at the edge of your seat.

7: Chivalry of a Failed Knight

     While there are no shortages of Romance anime’s that follow the whole “Boy goes to new school. Boy meets girl way out of his league. Girl pretends she hates boy. Boy does something cool. Girl falls in love with boy” plot, for some reason this one hits different.

     This anime follows that EXACT plot line I mentioned, but it is executed so well and the action along with the romance is so cool, that it’s well worth the watch.  The main character is the “failed knight” Ikki Kurogane, who by chance runs into the very cranky princess, Stella Vermillion.  Stella is incredibly powerful and of Royal blood, while Ikki is pretty much a nobody.

     As usual in these type of anime’s you find out that’s not entirely true.  But I’ll stop there to avoid any spoilers.  If you like sword wielding, magic throwing, and love stories, this one is definitely one to check out.

6: Fruits Basket

     If you’ve ever looked up romance anime’s, this one has probably been mentioned in every article ever.  But I’m going to mention it again. Its cute, adorable and just an all around heart warmer.

     The main character of this anime is Tohru Honda, an orphan who tragically lost her mother in a car accident.  Through a few other unfortunate events, she finds herself at the “Soma” household. 

     She quickly finds out that the members of the household are cursed, causing them to turn into animals whenever they are stressed, weak or even embraced.

     The curse runs a lot deeper than expected, but I don’t want to ruin anything.  Tohru is an amazing character, and the plot is incredibly unique. So if you want romance and a bit of mystery, Fruits Basket is a solid choice.

 

 

5 :Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

     Prepare to cry.  Like... a lot

    There are plenty of sad anime’s out there, but this one really hit me like niagra falls.  The main character, Sakuta, notices a GORGEOUS famous actress dressed in a bunny outfit at the library one day.  He freaks out because... well... no one else is. 

     The famous actress, Mai Sakurajima, just goes on about her day with NO ONE paying any attention to her.  Sakuta comes to find out that nobody can see or recognize her anymore, except for him.

     This is one of three major sub plots of the anime, all of which will have you crying on the floor of your bathroom like Olivia Rodrigo.

4 : Orange

     Next up on our list is another tearjerker. This anime follows a group of high school friends who meet the new kid, Kakeru.

     Naho, the other main character gets a mysterious letter claiming to be herself from the future.  The letters keep appearing and telling her to do certain things revolving around her new classmate and friend.  Without saying anything else, be prepared for a lot of unexpected turns and A LOT of waterworks.  You know, from your eyeballs.

 

3: A Silent Voice

     Okay I know what you’re thinking.  “STOP TELLING ME ABOUT ANIME’S THAT WILL MAKE ME CRY.”  Well, fine.  But after this last one…and holy crapoli, you’re definitely going to cry. 

     A piano prodigy who’s mother dies is suddenly unable to hear the sound of piano’s (even though he can hear perfectly fine). This leaves him unable to perform anymore and goes nearly 2 years without even touching a piano.

     He meets a quirky girl name Miyazono Kaori, who kicks A** at the violin.  The two become unbelievable friends and their journey is incredible.  You’ll find out some heartbreaking info a little bit into the anime.  Is it true? You’ll have to watch to find out.

 

2: Spice & Wolf

     This is another one that is right up there with my all-time favorites. It doesn’t quite take the Number 1 spot in my book, but it’s pretty darn close.

     The main character, Lawrence, is a traveling merchant who stumbles upon someone breaking into his cart to eat his food and sleep.  Only to find out it’s a Wolf girl… and not just the regular ole wolf girl you see at target when you go to buy candles and Axe Deodorant.

     No, this wolf girl is a goddess.  She just happens to inhabit the body of a girl... but also has a tail and wolf ears.

     The anime is a bit unique as it very slowly develops the relationship between the two.  While it is a “romance”, the other large plot of this is Lawrence’s ambition to grow a thriving business and become wealthy.

     While it can be slow at times, the love story between the two is one of the better and more realistic ones I’ve seen (aside from the wolf thing). Spice & Wolf gets a very close 2^nd place for me.

 

1: Toradora!

     The ABSOLUTE BEST romance anime, IMO of course.

     This one was actually the very first “true” romance anime I have ever watched.  And even after watching all the others, this one holds best at my number 1 slot.

     The main characters are Ryuki and Taiga (the most adorable character ever written btw), two classmates who have crushes on two other classmates.  Even though they don’t get along the very well, they decide to make an agreement to help each other secure the love of their crushes.

     I love my anime binge sessions like anyone else, but THIS one in particular had me glued to the screen from start to finish without even getting up to pee.  The characters are written so well, and the love story is unbelievable.  If you have not watched this one, throw out ALL the others in this list and watch this FIRST. You can go back to the rest later. In the words of Mike Tyson “Just trust me bro”.
