Best Anime’s in an MMO setting
Best Anime’s in an MMO setting
Whether or not you’ve watched it yourself, everyone who watches anime has at least heard the name “Sword Art Online”.
The anime primarily takes place in a fantasy world created by a video game developer. Its basically a giant MMO in which the players use a device called “nervegear” to enter.
Picture a VR headset, but instead of using your hands for a controller, it connects directly to your brain. The user can just lay right in his bed and be seemingly teleported to this new world.
And because it’s attached to your brain, they can even recreate the other senses like touch and feel. It’s as real-life as we could ever hope video games to be.
Most of us that watched it immediately fell in love with the idea of a video game world so realistic its like LIVING in World of Warcraft.
I don’t know about you, but I would definitely choose that world over the regular world any day.
But if you’ve already watched Sword Art Online, what other anime’s can give you that same feel? Well lucky for you, there’s a bunch of them. And I’m going to list some of the best right here for you.

1. How Not to Summon a Demon Lord
Available to Stream: Crunchyroll
Seasons 2
Plot: Takuma Sakamoto is an ordinary human who is mysteriously transported to the world of his favourite MMORPG, Cross Reverie, with the appearance of his own character in the game, the Demon Lord Diablo. The two young girls who summoned him, the pantherian Rem and the elf Shera, attempt to use a spell to make Takuma their servant, but the spell rebounds, and both end up with magic collars stuck on their necks, thus becoming his slaves instead. With a serious case of social anxiety, Takuma decides to act like his character while interacting with others, and makes use of his high stats and vast knowledge of Cross Reverie's lore to survive in his new environment, traveling along with Rem and Shera to look for a way to remove their slave collars while helping them with their own, personal issues that led them to summon him in the first place.
So as you can see, the plot is pretty consistent among all of these. Person gets teleported to a new world. Person gets trapped in new world. And in most cases, person falls in love and fights badass monsters in new world.
Out of this list there are a couple that I feel deserve the most attention. Not because all of these aren’t pretty good, but because 2 of them are “different” enough that they deserve the most credit.
“Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” Is the first. I thoroughly enjoyed this anime. It’s a bit fan servicey, featuring a giant breasted goddess who throws herself at the main character, but aside from that the plot is really cool.
While it does have the MMO element of leveling up and fighting dungeon monsters, there's this whole other side plot of the conspiracy of how the gods are ruling the world. Because of that, it should gain your attention.
KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!
This is one of my favorite all time Anime’s. Its light hearted and really fun. It focuses way more on comedy and the bond between the main set of characters. There’s honestly not even a whole ton of “fighting” (though there is some).
The characters are all HILARIOUS and unique in their own way. You’ll learn to love and laugh right along side them all.
This one is definitely worth watching, and many will agree.
