Top 5 Best Fights in Anime
Top 5 Best Fights in Anime
One of the best parts about anime is the action.
In every “shonin” style adventure the villains and hero’s get stronger and stronger, and the fights just get increasingly more epic.
Which is ALWAYS awesome.
But sometimes they can get a little too ridiculous too. When an anime is on the air for years and years, there often comes a point where we usually think “okay this is a little much”.
And the fights just don’t hit the same as they use to.
Maybe its nostalgia or maybe its maybelline.
Okay bad joke… but that doesn’t change the fact that most long winded anime’s often increase the stakes too fast, power levels get too high too quickly, and it seems less intense.
Somehow…
But there are a few fight scenes that will go down in history as some of the coolest shit that has ever been on T.V.
Let’s take a look at some of the best.
And don’t worry…
I’ll include links to each video so you can rewatch them and relive your childhood.
Or you haven’t seen them yet, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.
5. Goku V Frieza – Final Fight
This is easily my favorite DBZ fight of all time.
I honestly think Frieza was the best made villain in this anime. Part of this reason is because he was SO much stronger than anyone else at the time.
Let’s put this into perspective.
If you’ve watched DBZ you know that character strength is determined by their ‘power level’.
Goku’s base power level at this time was about 300,000. He was by far the strongest of the Z fighters.
Frieza on the other hand had a base power level of 530,000 in his first form. (There are 4 total).
What I really liked here is that the show was clear about what number Frieza’s level was compared to the other fighters. This painted a picture in our minds of JUST how incredibly strong this villain was.
And knowing that difference made the stakes seem so overwhelming, it seemed like there was no way out.
By his final form, at 100% of his strength, Frieza was able to reach a power level of 12,000,000.
Goku standing up to him was the coolest shit I have ever seen.
There is not a single fan of DBZ that doesn’t remember how absolutely F-ING epic it was with him turning into a super Saiyan.
The planet they are on is literally exploding. The rest of the fighters have only minutes to leave the planet, and Goku is ready to give his life to save his friends.
Until this point, no fight in any anime had come close in my life.
4. Tanjiro V Rui
Most action anime’s do this thing where the main character starts off relatively weak.
They typically have some kind of “unique” trait that is shown to us early on, but they have no way of knowing how to use it or just how strong it really is.
Demon slayer did this perfectly.
Part of this reason is because the “demon slayers” aren’t particularly special in any way. They’re just tough ass mother effers who fight with swords.
Throughout the anime it “looks” like they have powers. Such as water or fire circling around their swords.
But the creator has confirmed that this is only to allow the watcher (or reader) to visualize their precise movements.
Anyway, there’s always the “one fight” that happens that turns the tides completely. The one fight that transforms the character into that badass they are meant to be.
It wipes out all the doubt and uncertainty in their mind that they are the hero everyone is telling them they are.
This was that fight.
Rui is an insanely strong demon. He has these threads that shoot out of his hands, much like a spider.
And he is totally evil. At this point he has killed tons of humans in the area, and some of the demon slayers as well.
Now this fight didn’t have tons of crazy effects or giant bombs or energy blasts.
But that’s the beauty of it…
Tanjiro tries with all his might and is finally able to dodge some of the spider webs and moves in to strike Rui with his sword.
Only to have it shatter.
Now this is where it gets great.
Tanjiro has a look of utter horror and shock on his face. The music comes to a halt.
And all you hear is Rui punching his face into a pulp. Over and over again. Throwing him around like a rabid dog with a stuffed toy.
Needless to say, after all this Tanjiro does come out victorious. I’ll link the video here so you can see it for yourself.
3. Kenny v Levi Fight 1
This fight was an excellent start to the AOT season.
If you haven’t seen the anime yet, the main fighters of the show are called “scouts”.
Their weapons they use to fight the Titans are these swords which have replaceable blades attached to their hips. And this gear that uses some sort of compressed air and grappling hooks that allow them to swing from buildings.
Until this point in the show this was the primary weapon we have seen used.
The season starts out with the scouts getting attacked. Only instead of by Titans, it’s by other Humans.
And instead of grapplehook swords, they have guns.
During this fight many of the remaining scouts perish. Shot down by these other humans.
Their leader, Kenny, sets his eyes on captain Levi.
Apparently the two of them already known each other. And boy is there is serious anger between the two.
Levi ducks behind a wall and throws his sword at Kenny’s face. And then the chase begins.
The two of them begin swinging around the city in high velocity with scenes of the other scouts being shot down.
The intense speed and close calls make this scene epic as hell.
Finally, Levi ends up hiding in a bar. With Kenny slowly following in after.
At this point the captain has 0 weapons and is almost out of air for his grappling hook device.
He’s surrounded by Kenny and his men. It seems like there is no chance of escape.
But Levi is smart.
He looks through a wine bottle on the wall to see a reflection of where Kenny is. Grabs a powder musket the owner keeps behind bar and fires it at Kenny as a distraction.
He then throws a chair out of the window which gets shot at the one of the men surrounding him.
When the man looks for Levi’s dead body and sees a chair, the captain darts out the window and shoots a grappling hook RIGHT INTO HIS FACE.
He then pulls himself toward the dead body and continues by using it as a meat shield to block all the bullets spraying at him.
This was one of the coolest escapes I have ever seen.
2. Rem going Berserk For the First Time
Re:Zero is a fantastic anime, and I highly suggest you give it a try if you haven’t.
The premise of the show is a character who gets transported to a new world.
The world is filled with magic users and fighters and creepy witches.
Seems familiar right? Wrong.
The main character, Subaru, has no special powers. He’s just a human.
In fact, he is actually cursed. The curse makes it so that any time he dies he “resets”.
And yes, the anime is about him learning to use this curse to save the people he cares about. But it also causes insane emotional trauma and utter distress.
He eventually ends up at a mansion of a very powerful mage. The mage has 2 maids that work for him.
Rem and Ram.
They are seemingly just your average, adorable, sweet girls who keep things tidy around the house.
But that doesn’t last long.
I don’t want to ruin the plot of the anime by filling in all the details. But it turns out there is more to Rem and Ram than meets the eye.
We later find the three of these characters being attacked by a group of Demon dogs terrorizing the village. Subaru nears his death only to be saved by Rem swinging around a ball and chain.
And now this scene gets gruesome as heck.
It’s revealed to use that Rem is actually a demon. A horn grows from her head and she has super speed and super strength.
What makes this so fun to watch is the total loss of her consciousness. She immediately changes from the quiet maid to an absolute monster.
And I mean totally berserk. She’s not herself. She just goes into a fighting frenzy slaying demon after demon after demon.
She is so far gone that none of her personality remains.
The animators and voice actor did such a phenomenal job with this scene, it truly needs more recognition.
1. Naruto v Sasuke – FIRST Fight
Naruto has some of the most epic fight scenes out of any anime. It’s filled with battle after battle from start to finish.
I was actually really late to watching this. A friend of mine told me over and over for YEARS and I just didn’t want to commit to something so long.
But then he showed me this fight. I was hooked.
Throughout the series Naruto and Sasuke have a very strange relationship. Naruto calls him his “friend” over and over, but Sasuke slips into madness.
They fight several times in the show, but this one is by far my favorite.
This was relatively early on in the series. The main characters didn’t have all these crazy powers (like turning into a giant monster) or any flashy moves.
Everything revolved around their intelligence and ability to trick their opponents. Each fight was like watching a game of chess. Only with knives and punching.
I loved this scene so much because it sets up the premise for the whole show.
Sasuke is losing his grip on reality and Naruto is trying desperately to “save” him from madness.
The two of them go back and forth. As soon as one gets the upper hand by unlocking a new power, the other turns the tides.
Its so emotional and so well animated that I can not think of a better fight in any anime.
